Rashid Rana (born 1968) is an artist from Pakistan. His work involves collaborations with a billboard painter, photographic/video performances, collages using found material, photo mosaics and more. His simultaneous exploration of media and identity, bound by a political edge and a satire of pop culture, looks to reinterpret art and cultural history. His forays into video art has resulted in the seminal installation “Meeting Point” (2006) in which Rana recalls terrorist visions by projecting images of airplanes, seemingly colliding into each other. “Dis-Location” (2007) operates from a different social angle, in its rendering of a colonial building in Lahore (Pakistan) fragmented in a black and white photomontage, to perhaps remind of a not-so-distant geo-political condition.
