Mathieu Beauséjour has been presenting his installations, interventions and images since the mid 1990s, with an approach that he place in within resistance and détournements to subvert the materials and concepts of power, alienation and oppression. With his Survival Virus project (1991-1999) he enrolled in the daily practice to stamp and record all the serial numbers from to paper bank notes that passed through his hand from buying and selling transactions that he may have been subjected to. The soiled or “infected” notes, as Beauséjour would say, were then put back in circulation, and subsequently re-used as the content of his artworks.
