Douglas Coupland (born December 30, 1961) is a Canadian novelist and visual artist. He has published many books including the bestselling “Generation X”, and was described as one of the great satirists of consumerism. His exhibition work employs a variety of media, to subvert the corrupting and seductive dimensions of pop culture. He appropriated several iconic images from other creators such as Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst, as well as more generic icons of consumer culture like 2D barcodes, rendered in colourful painted versions, or toy soldiers up scaled to larger than human-sized bronze statues.
