Deborah Kass (born 1952) is an American artist exploring the intersection of pop culture, art history, and self-identity. The “Art History” paintings (1992) are her first significant body of work, which combined frames lifted from Disney cartoons with fragments of images from Pablo Picasso, Jasper Johns, Jackson Pollock, and post-war artists. In “The Andy Warhol Project” (1992-2000) she used similar technical and stylistic language to Warhol to represent explicitly personal and political relationship to her own cultural interests. Her current series entitled “Feel Good Paintings For Feel Bad Times” (2002-now), in part inspired, by her reaction to the Bush administration.
