Claude Closky

Claude Closky is a French artist, born in Paris in 1963. His work is not so much inscribed in material forms as it is in language. Using the codes of media and advertising to produce posters, banners, websites and magazine ads. This way his production is not only seen by gallery goers but also the same target audience as the advertisers he wishes to subvert. In 2009 he used the Google Places service to create “Backyard Rain Forecast”, clashing the site’s positioning icons against weather forecast imagery. With his 1989 piece “All the Ways to Close a Cardboard Box”, he made a direct reference to Sol Lewitt's minimal and repetitive sculptures, but not before adding his own humorous flavor to the piece.
